Tens of thousands of foreign fighters are now involved in the conflict in Ukraine. Initially reliant on Western volunteers, Ukraine now sees a surge of recruits from South America, particularly Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. Approximately 7,000 Colombian nationals are currently fighting for Ukraine, integrated into regular Ukrainian military units. Remarkably, reports indicate that former adversaries from the Colombian army and rebel groups are now confronting each other on Ukrainian soil, sometimes on opposing sides of the conflict. Ukrainian commanders report high demand for foreign service and believe bureaucratic hurdles are the main obstacle to further recruitment. Ukraine urgently needs to bolster its forces with experienced personnel as the war continues.
