A disagreement over proposed labor regulations is causing friction within the governing coalition in the Czech Republic. The dispute centers on a law concerning platform work drafted by Minister of Labour Aleš Juchelka of ANO, which unions argue would effectively legalize “fake self-employment” – known locally as “švarcsystém.” The SPD party is demanding significant changes to the draft, threatening to withhold their support in the Chamber of Deputies if their concerns are not addressed. Minister Juchelka, however, is standing firm on his version of the law. ANO may be able to circumvent the SPD’s opposition by potentially gaining support from ODS. This issue, along with previous disagreements regarding sick leave periods and unemployment benefits, highlights employment policy as a critical vulnerability for the coalition government comprised of ANO, SPD, and Motorist parties. The outcome of this conflict could impact the stability of the Czech government.
