Two cleaning companies operating in Amsterdam and Zaandam have been issued fines totaling €700,000 by the Dutch Labour Inspection. The investigation revealed that employees were receiving cash payments, and the companies lacked proper payroll administration. The Labour Inspection has seized assets from both companies to ensure the fines are paid. Currently, the investigation is extending to a hotel chain and an accountant, though that part remains ongoing. During a hotel inspection, authorities found bags of cash and discovered cleaners were being paid “off the books.” The companies were unable to demonstrate the employment status of dozens of workers, raising concerns about minimum wage compliance, and seventeen workers were found to be employed illegally, violating Dutch immigration laws.
