Cigarette prices in Romania have increased recently, with two of the country's leading manufacturers, British American Tobacco (BAT) and Japan Tobacco International (JTI), raising prices by approximately one leu per pack. The price increases took effect in late June and early July, according to data analyzed by Profit.ro. BAT initiated the hikes on June 22nd. This adjustment brings the cost of some cigarette packs to 33.5 lei, equivalent to roughly €7. The increase affects products from major brands sold within the country. Analysts suggest further price adjustments are possible due to evolving market conditions and excise duties. Consumers will likely feel the impact of these rising costs.
