Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has begun operating robotaxis on South Korean roads. The initial deployment involves 200 vehicles and marks a significant step for the company's expansion outside of China. Testing and data collection will be central to adapting the technology to Korean road conditions and regulations. Pony.ai aims to commercially launch robotaxi services in Seoul around 2028. This move signifies growing international interest in autonomous vehicle technology and South Korea’s emergence as a testbed for these innovations. The project expects to contribute to the development of fully self-driving capabilities. The city of Seoul anticipates benefits from the enhanced transportation options and potential economic opportunities.
