A Chinese humanoid robot, Tiangong Ultra, has stunned the world by running 100 meters in just 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing Usain Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds. Developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, Tiangong overtook competitor Lightning, also a remarkably fast robot, in a thrilling finish. Lightning clocked in at 9.47 seconds, also exceeding Bolt’s record. This performance represents a significant leap forward from last year’s games, where Tiangong completed the race in 21.50 seconds. Both robots have demonstrated impressive endurance, previously winning humanoid robot marathons. China is heavily investing in humanoid robotics, viewing it as a key strategic industry with applications in manufacturing, logistics, and consumer markets, as evidenced by the recent surge in Unitree’s stock value.
