A desalination plant located on Bohai Bay in the Caofeidian industrial zone of Tangshan, Hebei province, has significantly improved its energy efficiency. The facility has reduced electricity consumption by over 60% through a new process that transforms previously toxic waste brine into valuable industrial salt. This breakthrough was recently achieved during the plant’s trial production phase, as reported by the state-run Science and Technology Daily. The technology addresses a key environmental challenge associated with desalination – the disposal of highly concentrated brine. By converting this waste product into usable chemical salt, the plant minimizes environmental impact and creates a commercially viable product. This development offers a potential solution to global concerns regarding sustainable desalination practices. The project marks a significant advancement in resource recovery and energy conservation within China’s water treatment sector.
