Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng has proposed a significant expansion of tariff-free trade between the two nations. Speaking at a US-China Business Council gala in Washington, Xie called for the current limit of US$30 billion to be increased to US$300 billion. This proposal targets non-sensitive goods managed under the newly established US-China Board of Trade. The ambassador noted that the current tariff-free basket is insufficient to meet the needs of American businesses. By increasing the limit tenfold, China aims to facilitate a larger volume of trade without the burden of tariffs. The move reflects an effort to strengthen economic ties through the joint board mechanism. This proposal highlights the ongoing negotiations regarding trade barriers and economic cooperation between the two superpowers.
