China has reclaimed the title of having the world’s fastest supercomputer, ending a six-year US lead. The new top-ranked system is located at the National Supercomputer Center in Shenzhen. This marks the first time since 2017 that a Chinese computer has held the number one position in the bi-annual Top500 list of the world’s most powerful computers. The Chinese supercomputer has surpassed the previous leader, the American “El Capitan.” The Top500 list is a widely recognized ranking of supercomputing performance globally. This development signals a significant advancement in China’s technological capabilities and potential implications for scientific research and development.
