Igor Sechin, head of Russian oil giant Rosneft, asserted that China is now the dominant force in global energy markets, surpassing OPEC’s influence. Speaking at a Russia-China business forum in Vladivostok, Sechin stated China stabilized markets by curbing its crude oil imports by 5.5 million barrels per day in the current year. This reduction, according to Sechin, has been the key factor in maintaining balance. As a long-time ally of Vladimir Putin and a pivotal figure in Russian energy, Sechin's comments carry significant weight. His statement suggests a shift in the dynamics of global oil control, with China increasingly dictating market trends. The remarks were made during a forum aimed at strengthening economic ties between Russia and China. This observation highlights a growing dependence on Chinese demand as a controlling element in the energy sector.
