China has completed construction of a 100-meter observation tower in the South China Sea, establishing a new height record for structures in the region. The tower, built by the China Meteorological Administration, is designed to endure extreme weather conditions, including super typhoons with winds exceeding 200km/h and corrosive saltwater environments. It surpasses the height of the previous tallest structure in the area by nearly threefold. Equipped with advanced sensors, the tower will continuously gather real-time meteorological data. This data collection aims to improve weather forecasting and monitoring capabilities in the contested South China Sea. The structure’s robust design addresses the unique challenges posed by the marine environment, ensuring long-term operational reliability.
