Chinese researchers have achieved a significant advancement in sustainable jet fuel production by developing a novel catalyst. This catalyst efficiently converts synthesis gas, created from woody biomass, into jet fuel in a pilot test involving one thousand tonnes. Results demonstrate the catalyst’s effectiveness in achieving “highly efficient synthesis,” paving the way for increased production capacity. Crucially, the innovation is projected to elevate the gross profit margin of sustainable jet fuel production above 50%, making it economically more viable. This breakthrough represents a considerable step toward meeting global net-zero carbon emission goals by offering a sustainable alternative to conventional aviation fuel. Further development could have substantial implications for the aviation industry's decarbonization efforts in China and beyond.
