Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) railway has reached a significant milestone with the completion of a key tunnel in Kyrgyzstan. This development follows a recent visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kyrgyzstan and signifies the first major progress on the project since work began in June 2025. The 210-metre tunnel is the first to be drilled in the Kyrgyz section of the railway. The CKU railway is a flagship project under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to provide China with a crucial trade route that avoids reliance on Russia. The completed railway will enhance trade connectivity between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Officials view this as a critical step toward revitalizing regional trade and economic cooperation.
