Thai authorities arrested a 50-year-old Chinese national, Hou, in Chiang Mai on June 17th, acting on a warrant from China. Hou is accused of running a large-scale investment platform identified as a Ponzi scheme. The arrest took place at a housing estate in the Nong Pa Khrang subdistrict of Mueang district. Chinese authorities allege the platform defrauded numerous investors. Details regarding the extent of the fraud and the number of victims have not yet been released. Hou’s detention follows a collaborative effort between Thai and Chinese law enforcement. He will likely be extradited to China to face charges.
