As the cool autumn season begins in Ulaanbaatar, health organizations are issuing warnings regarding carbon monoxide poisoning, especially concerning household heating. Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of fuels like coal, wood, and timber. A dangerous aspect of this gas is that people are often unaware they are being poisoned due to its undetectable nature, leading to potential health risks and even fatalities. Authorities strongly advise against blocking chimneys and emphasize the importance of never closing chimney dampers. Residents are urged to ventilate their homes every two hours, ensure stoves have clear exhaust paths, and avoid leaving fires unattended. Further preventative measures include not heating cars in garages, avoiding prolonged exposure in running vehicles after alcohol consumption, checking stove integrity, and ensuring complete fuel combustion. First aid instructions are also being disseminated to the public.
