The first “Canary Islands Forum on Terrorism: Global Terrorism and Extremism” convened in Las Palmas, marking a novel initiative for the archipelago. Organized by the Spanish Association of Terrorism Victims in partnership with the Official College of Psychology of Las Palmas, the forum brought together experts, academics, security and military officials, victims of terrorism, and civil society representatives. A key outcome of the forum was a consensus among participants to classify the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization. This decision reflects growing concerns about the group’s activities and potential links to wider extremist networks. The event aimed to foster discussion and collaboration on counter-terrorism strategies within the Canary Islands region and beyond. It represents a significant development in the regional approach to security and political stability.
