Cameroon’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Development reports progress in urban waste management one year after national discussions on the issue. Despite these reported advancements, the capital city, Yaoundé, continues to struggle with widespread illegal dumping and overflowing waste. The Ministry highlights assistance to local councils for daily waste collection and strengthening operational chains as key initiatives. Eleven waste collection points have been constructed in Yaoundé since 2025 to address haphazard dumpsites, with 77 more planned, funded by the African Development Bank. Similar projects are slated for other cities including Mbouda, Kumba, Foumbot, and Douala. While the government expresses optimism, residents remain concerned about the persistent waste problem impacting their cities.
