Cameroon’s national electricity transport company, SONATREL, has received seven new power transformers totaling 335 MVA of additional capacity. These transformers will be deployed to key locations including Logbaba, Kribi, Bekoko, and PROMETAL, aiming to strengthen the national grid and meet growing demand. Logbaba will receive the largest share – three 60 MVA transformers – significantly increasing its capacity and securing power to Douala and surrounding areas. Kribi and Bekoko will each receive a 50 MVA transformer, with Bekoko’s installation crucial for restoring operational margins after a previous incident. A 75 MVA transformer is earmarked for PROMETAL to support industrial production, and a final 50 MVA unit will be held in strategic reserve for emergencies. This investment addresses increased electricity needs driven by industrialization and urbanization within Cameroon.
