Dr. Marie Solange Ndom, the first female Director General of Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, Cameroon, has been awarded the Pan-African Media Convention’s (CPM) African Excellence Award in Health Governance. The award, presented on June 24, 2026, recognizes Dr. Ndom’s vision of professionalism, humanism, and patient-centered care. The CPM, representing over sixty media outlets across the continent, cited observed improvements within the hospital since her appointment in late 2024 as key to their decision. These changes are attributed to her leadership and the dedication of the hospital’s 1,650 employees. CPM President Gamal Machia praised Dr. Ndom’s “responsible governance” and acknowledged the team’s implementation of administrative directives. Dr. Ndom previously served as a medical advisor and eminent cardiologist before ascending to her current role at the 95-year-old hospital, viewing the award as recognition of her career progression within the Cameroonian healthcare system.
