The Yaoundé 1st district in Cameroon initiated a series of commemorative activities on June 22nd, 2026, dedicated to supporting and empowering widows, ahead of the UN’s International Widows’ Day on June 23rd. A significant number of widows attended the launch event held at the Yaoundé 1st city hall. The program’s initial focus was a health campaign offering medical consultations, screenings, and advice, specifically addressing conditions like arthritis, rheumatism, and back pain. Participants also received massage therapy to promote well-being. The strong turnout demonstrates the community’s interest in this social initiative aimed at improving the inclusion and protection of vulnerable individuals. Mayor Jean Marie Abouna reaffirmed his commitment to the dignity, welfare, and empowerment of widows through capacity-building opportunities and local development participation.
