Cameroon has implemented stricter regulations for private agencies organizing the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage. A recent decree from the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) mandates a minimum turnover of 100 million FCFA and a financial guarantee of 10 million FCFA for agencies seeking accreditation. These agencies must also possess approvals from both the Ministry of Tourism (MINTOUL) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The increased requirements aim to enhance the security and organization of the pilgrimage to Mecca, safeguarding Cameroonian pilgrims from potential fraud or mismanagement. Promoters must be Cameroonian citizens with a proven track record of Hajj completion, language proficiency, and adherence to Saudi regulations. The National Hajj Commission, established in 2003, will play a key role in evaluating applications and ensuring compliance with the new standards. These measures signal a government effort to reform the private Hajj sector and protect its citizens.
