Cameroon has successfully raised $300 million, equivalent to 175 billion FCFA, by reopening its 2033 eurobond. This financial maneuver aims to fund key priorities outlined in the 2026 budget and address outstanding arrears. The government of Cameroon utilized a “tap” – a standard financial mechanism allowing for additional funds to be raised on an existing bond – avoiding the creation of new debt. These resources will be allocated to projects detailed in the 2026 finance law as well as to settling domestic payment arrears, a crucial concern for businesses. This operation aligns with authorized borrowing limits for 2026 and demonstrates Yaoundé’s strategy to diversify funding sources between domestic and international markets while smoothing its repayment profile by 2033. Despite tighter financial conditions, the successful bond reopening signals continued investor confidence in Cameroon’s financial standing.
