A Catholic priest, Father John Bosco Bihkong, and two other members of the Emmanuel Franciscan Brothers congregation have been abducted in the Northwest region of Cameroon. The kidnapping occurred on June 27, 2026, in Melim, Father Bihkong’s home village, while he was celebrating his first mass. The Bishop of Nkongsamba, Dieudonné Espoir Atangana, announced the abduction and called for prayers and support for the victims' release. This incident underscores the continuing impact of the decade-long Anglophone crisis, during which clergy members have frequently been targeted by separatist groups. Previous kidnappings of religious figures have occurred, including an incident in 2022 and another in 2025 where ransoms were demanded. Authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding prior releases, and the fate of the current abductees remains uncertain.
