Cameroonian authorities have dismantled a large human trafficking network operating across Central and West Africa, identifying over 600 victims. The operation, launched in May 2026 following reports of online fraud and kidnappings, targeted individuals involved with companies named QNET, IGNITE, and UNIMEC, which used multi-level marketing tactics to conceal their illicit activities. Thirteen individuals, including six key coordinators in Cameroon, have been arrested. Investigations revealed the network utilized properties in multiple cities as logistical bases and accommodation for victims. Authorities determined the masterminds of the operation are based in Malaysia, with active branches throughout West and Central Africa. The scheme primarily preyed upon vulnerable individuals – job seekers, students, and those hoping to emigrate – with false promises of employment, training, and high returns on investment. Victims were then subjected to extortionate fees.
