Over 14,502 census workers in Cameroon have not received payment three weeks after the completion of the 4th General Population and Housing Census, coupled with the General Agricultural and Livestock Census. The World Bank has expressed solidarity with the unpaid workers and is urging for swift resolution of their payment issues. The issues with the census extend beyond payment, including concerns about coverage rates, postponements of the completion date, and a previous strike by census workers. Additionally, 7,000 complaints are currently awaiting processing. The West Africa and Central Africa Statistics Harmonization and Improvement Project (Hiswaca) notified a World Bank mission about the situation on October 7, 2026, following an assessment meeting at the Central Bureau of Census and Population Studies (Bucrep) headquarters. The World Bank mission has recommended the immediate transfer of detailed documentation to census coordinators to facilitate payments, emphasizing adherence to procedures and required documentation.
