A new Senate building, named the Solidarity Palace, was officially opened in Cambodia on Friday by King Norodom Sihamoni. The inauguration was attended by Senate President Hun Sen and other officials. Controversially, the building’s construction was partly funded by Ly Yong Phat, a Cambodian businessman and senator. Phat was previously sanctioned by the United States government due to alleged links with online scam operations and associated abuses. The funding raises questions about Cambodia's reliance on individuals with questionable backgrounds for infrastructure development. The opening of the building highlights a complex situation involving politics, economics, and international pressure related to illicit online activities within the country.
