The African Football Confederation (CAF) is convening an emergency executive committee meeting to address a sensitive proposal from FIFA, known as “Fifa Forward Enterprise.” This project proposes opening up 20% of the World Cup’s capital to private investors, potentially offering member federations up to €35 million. FIFA has given federations a 55-day deadline to respond, with participation requiring a relinquishing of shares or rights within a new commercial entity. While the specifics remain unclear, the financial incentive is significant, especially for financially reliant African federations. CAF President Patrice Motsepe initiated the meeting to thoroughly evaluate the plan and has requested all 54 member associations to carefully consider the proposal. Unlike UEFA and CONCACAF, which have voiced opposition, CAF prioritizes dialogue. The funds could bolster infrastructure and development, but concerns remain about control and potential consequences of ceding equity.
