Béla Skripeg, a citizen of Hungary, passed away after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in 2022. Following his diagnosis, Skripeg joined forces with Dániel Karsai in advocating for the right to euthanasia. The two men publicly campaigned and raised awareness regarding their desire for a dignified end to life in the face of debilitating illness. Their combined efforts brought the sensitive topic of assisted dying to the forefront of public debate in Hungary. Skripeg’s death marks a significant loss for the movement seeking to legalize euthanasia within the country. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not yet been widely released. His partnership with Karsai highlighted the personal struggles of those living with terminal illnesses and a desire for autonomy over their own bodies.
