Finland’s Immigration Service (Migri) has issued penalty fees to six employers found to have hired individuals unlawfully present in the country. The agency describes the employers’ actions as prolonged and demonstrating a clear disregard for the law. These penalties, not yet legally binding, range from 1,250 to 37,530 euros, based on employment contract law. In some instances, employers may also be obligated to cover the costs associated with the repatriation of the undocumented worker. Migri emphasized the severity of the offenses, highlighting the sustained nature of the illegal employment. The decisions are currently subject to appeal. This action signals a tightening of enforcement regarding undocumented labor within Finland.
