Romanian capital’s mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, a leading figure within the National Liberal Party (PNL), has been called for questioning by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). The timing of the summons has sparked reaction from within Ciucu’s own party. PNL Deputy Raluca Turcan described the event as a “significant coincidence” given the current heightened political climate. Fellow PNL member, MEP Gheorghe Falcă, urged caution against premature judgements regarding the politician’s involvement. The DNA has not publicly disclosed the reason for summoning Ciucu. This development occurs during a period of increased political debate and scrutiny in Romania. The PNL is currently a major player in the governing coalition.
