A forensic science student in England, Benjamin Day, has confessed to murdering a 24-year-old woman after luring her to an Airbnb property in Tividale, near Birmingham. The prosecution stated that Day was obsessed with the television series Dexter, about a forensic expert who is also a serial killer. He rented a room and meticulously recreated a “kill room” mirroring one from the show, covering it in plastic sheeting and creating a “shopping list” including items like aprons and cleaning supplies. Day stabbed the victim 78 times, intending to dismember her, but stopped after injuring himself. Following the murder, he called emergency services for his own injuries, but inconsistencies in his story and a report from the Airbnb landlord, who noted blood seen by another tenant, led to his arrest. Day initially claimed self-defense and a TikTok tribute motive, but later confessed guilt with a smirk. He will be sentenced on December 4th, following a similar 2014 case in England where a teenager was convicted for murder inspired by the same show.
