Brazil is not expected to produce its own rare earth magnets before 2032, according to the coordinator of the nation’s primary magnet pilot plant. This delay means China will maintain its dominant position in rare earth magnet technology for the foreseeable future. Andre Luis Pimenta de Faria, heading the Senai plant, stated that initial production batches are not anticipated until at least the end of 2032. The announcement was made at Exposibram, Brazil's largest mining congress, during a public policy panel discussion. This timeline indicates Brazil will remain reliant on external sources for these critical components for nearly another decade. This finding suggests Brazil’s potential to challenge China’s near-monopoly is further off than previously anticipated and highlights the complexities of establishing a fully domestic rare earth magnet supply chain.
