Bitou bush, originally planted in New South Wales to stabilize sand dunes, has become a significant environmental problem. The plant now covers 46% of the New South Wales coastline, aggressively spreading and displacing native vegetation. This proliferation of bitou bush is altering habitats for native animals throughout the region. Authorities have recognized the severity of the issue and implemented a Threat Abatement Plan. The plan aims to effectively manage and contain the invasive species to protect the native ecosystems of New South Wales. Continued efforts are crucial to mitigate the damage caused by this once-favored plant.
