Belgium is battling its largest wildfire in modern history, currently spanning 3,000 hectares in the High Fens park near the German border. The blaze, which began Friday, has spread rapidly due to dry conditions and is being fought by firefighters, military helicopters from the Netherlands, and local farmers. Farmers are actively transporting water from Robertville lake using tractors, supplementing the aerial water drops. While conditions remain challenging, authorities report two fire fronts are now under control. The fire has prompted partial evacuations of nearby villages, with around 20 people sheltered in a local sports hall. The area, previously affected by large fires in 1911, is experiencing a thick smoke plume due to the intense burning of peatlands and pine forests.
