A woman named Tamanna Chowdhury Priyanka has filed a lawsuit in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court alleging the demolition of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 32 Dhanmondi Road in Dhaka. The complaint claims the demolition occurred on February 5th of last year, announced beforehand and promoted on social media, with the use of city corporation bulldozers and excavators. Hundreds reportedly gathered as the building was allegedly torn down. Priyanka is holding those previously in power responsible for the act, which involved a structure holding significant memories of the Liberation War. The case centers on the alleged destruction of a site deeply connected to Bangladesh’s history and national identity. The lawsuit seeks accountability for the purported dismantling of the memorial. Further details regarding the defendants and specific charges are yet to be fully disclosed.
