A severe gas crisis in Bangladesh is forcing hundreds of knitwear factories to suspend operations, according to Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). The crisis is crippling production, leaving factory owners unable to meet worker payrolls and fulfill export orders. Hatem estimates export losses to be around two million, with 40 to 50 percent of exports already impacted. The situation has reached a critical point, effectively cornering the industry. The BKMEA president highlighted the widespread damage across the sector due to the gas supply shortages. This disruption threatens the nation's key garment industry and related employment. Immediate intervention is needed to restore gas supplies and prevent further economic fallout.
