Bangladesh is evaluating the technical and financial feasibility of constructing a new barrage on the Teesta River to address water scarcity during the dry season. Prime Minister Tareq Rahman disclosed this information in response to questions during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, June 17th. The proposed barrage aims to improve water storage capacity within the Teesta River basin. Details were provided in a written response as the Prime Minister was not present in parliament. The project is currently undergoing multi-stage assessments to determine its viability. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to manage water resources and mitigate the impacts of seasonal droughts in the region. Further studies will be necessary before construction can begin.
