A recent exhibit showcases the remarkably varied artistic responses to a shared study trip to Banaras (Varanasi). Artists from the Lalitkala Campus each translated their experiences of the city – encompassing its cremation ghats, the Ganga Aarti ceremony, and its unique architectural landscape – into distinct visual narratives. Rather than a cohesive collection, the exhibit highlights the deeply personal and individual interpretations inspired by Banaras’s rich cultural tapestry. The works span diverse mediums, including portraiture and architectural studies, demonstrating the breadth of artistic talent fostered at the Campus. The exhibit underscores how a single locale can ignite a multitude of creative visions. It's a testament to the power of place to inspire and the individual artist's ability to distill experience into compelling art. The display provides a fascinating glimpse into the artists’ perspectives, providing a multi-faceted portrait of Banaras itself.
