The Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania has launched Rasa, the world’s first waste collection vessel powered by green hydrogen. The ship will operate within the port, collecting waste from vessels and ensuring a cleaner maritime environment. Rasa utilizes hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity, producing zero emissions during operation. This initiative marks a significant step towards decarbonizing the shipping industry and promoting sustainable practices in the Baltic Sea region. The vessel’s launch was celebrated with an official naming ceremony, highlighting the port’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. The project involved collaboration between various partners to develop and implement this groundbreaking technology. Rasa is expected to significantly reduce the port’s carbon footprint and serve as a model for other ports globally.
