Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced that a major road in Duki district will be renamed “Dr Mahnoor Nasir Road” in recognition of her courage following a brutal acid attack. Dr Nasir, a 29-year-old doctor at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, suffered severe injuries in June when a colleague allegedly attacked her with acid. The attacker, Humayun Shah, was later killed during an attempted escape. The Chief Minister praised Dr Nasir’s bravery and determination, highlighting her as a role model for women in Balochistan. This decision aims to acknowledge and encourage dedicated citizens like Dr Nasir. The renaming is a “token of public recognition” for her resilience and service to the medical profession, and follows widespread condemnation of the attack and a landmark Supreme Court ruling deeming acid attacks more heinous than homicide.
