An anti-terrorism court in Quetta has sentenced Mahrang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), and Sibghatullah Shahji to life in prison for their involvement in the 2024 death of a Frontier Corps (FC) personnel during a violent protest in Gwadar. The court found them guilty of contributing to the death resulting from stone-pelting by a mob. The incident occurred during the Baloch Rajee Muchi, a Baloch National Gathering, where clashes between protesters and security forces resulted in three deaths and ten injuries. Prior to the Gwadar clashes, a separate incident near Mastung involved an attack on a Levies checkpoint and gunfire targeting FC personnel, injuring six. Both Baloch and Shahji have been detained for the past two years in connection with multiple cases. A written verdict detailing the court’s decision is still pending release, according to their lawyer.
