The Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights is assisting in perfecting the application documents for Geographical Indication (GI) status for Gelgel Songket weaving, a traditional textile from Klungkung Regency. A team from the ministry's Intellectual Property division conducted on-site support Thursday to refine the submission. This move aims to protect the authenticity and origin of Gelgel Songket, bolstering the local weaving industry. Obtaining GI status will provide exclusive rights to producers in the designated region, preventing imitation and promoting economic benefits. The process involves meticulous documentation to demonstrate the unique qualities linked to Gelgel’s geographical origin. This initiative is expected to enhance the value and reputation of Gelgel Songket both domestically and internationally, safeguarding a valuable cultural heritage.
