Australia has funded and opened a new 100-bed women’s residence, Dame Jean Kekedo Residential Hall, at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) in Lae. The hall aims to provide safe housing and encourage more women to study engineering and technical disciplines. The project addresses a critical need for accommodation to support female students pursuing higher education in these fields. The opening took place on Monday and is intended to increase access to education for women in PNG. Details of the opening were published by the Post Courier, but access requires a subscription. The initiative reflects a commitment to gender equality and skills development within the region.
