Rome is experiencing an invasion of Asian hornets, with millions reported throughout the city. These insects are not only preying on local bee populations but are also exhibiting a surprising adaptability in their diet, consuming human food waste and even pet food like cat kibble. Expert Andrea Lunerti warns that the invasion coincides with the hornets’ mating season, increasing their activity. Nests are being found in unusual locations, including window shutters, gardens, gas stations, and archaeological sites. This poses a threat to residents as the hornets become more prevalent in urban areas.
