Indonesia is advocating for a unified Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to address the growing digital divide. Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid made the call for collaboration, emphasizing the need to ensure equitable access to AI technologies and benefits throughout the region. The proposed framework aims to foster AI development while mitigating potential risks and disparities among member states. Indonesia believes a joint approach is crucial for maximizing AI’s potential for economic growth and social progress in Southeast Asia. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between technologically advanced and less developed ASEAN nations. The framework would focus on capacity building, data governance, and ethical considerations surrounding AI implementation. Further discussions are planned to refine the proposal and gain consensus among ASEAN members.
