Climate scientist Li Xueke has transitioned from the University of Pennsylvania to City University of Hong Kong, citing opportunities to study the emerging green economy. Li’s research focuses on new Arctic shipping routes becoming viable due to climate change and the resulting seasonal ice melt. He believes this shift positions him on the “front lines” of understanding the economic consequences of a warming planet. His decade of experience studying the Arctic will now be applied to analyzing the impacts of increased maritime traffic in the region. CityU’s school of energy and environment will be the base for his work as an assistant professor. The move reflects a growing focus on the economic implications of climate change in the Arctic.
