Archbishop Andrew Nkea of Bamenda has been appointed as the new Grand Chancellor of the Central Africa Catholic University (UCAC), succeeding Archbishop Jean Mbarga of Yaoundé. The decision was made by a vote of 13 out of 19 Cameroonian bishops, signaling a new era for the university’s governance. As Grand Chancellor, Nkea will safeguard the Catholic identity of UCAC and preside over its superior council, representing the university to regional and Vatican authorities. His role involves overseeing the university’s orientations, supporting its academic growth, and collaborating closely with the rector. The appointment, confirmed by the Vatican, follows a consultation process among regional bishops. Nkea continues a line of prominent prelates who have served in this position, including the late Cardinal Christian Tumi.
