Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim has stated the upcoming Johor state election should be contested on political grounds, without drawing in the state’s royal institutions. Speaking in Tangkak, Anwar emphasized the importance of keeping the election a purely political contest. He cautioned against involving the Malay Rulers in the electoral process. This statement comes amid campaigning for the March 12th polls, where various parties are vying for control of the Johor state legislative assembly. Anwar’s remarks aim to maintain respect for the monarchy and ensure the election focuses on policy and political platforms. The call for separation intends to prevent any perception of undue influence or politicization of the royal institutions. The election was triggered by the death of a state assemblyman and the subsequent dissolution of the state legislature.
