Thailand anticipates a favorable decision next month regarding the potential designation of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The nomination is currently under review by the World Heritage Committee. According to Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Raweewan Phuridej, the temple is a strong candidate for recognition. If successful, this would mark Thailand’s ninth World Heritage site. Wat Phra Mahathat is a historically and culturally significant temple within the country. The anticipated listing would further promote and protect Thailand’s rich cultural heritage on a global scale. A final decision is expected following the committee’s deliberations.
