A recent study has determined the immense scale of a Roman cistern located in southern Spain. Researchers created a detailed 3D model of the structure to accurately measure its dimensions and capacity. The Great Cistern is capable of holding up to 576,000 gallons – or 2.18 million liters – of water. The modelling also allowed scientists to assess the accumulation of sediment within the cistern over time. This discovery provides valuable insight into Roman engineering and water management techniques. The research was conducted at the Roman site, offering a deeper understanding of the area’s historical infrastructure.
